January 2010 – Monochromatic Color Palette

Colors to use: Wintery Blue

Block Name: Silver Lane – www.quilterscache.com (click for block instructions – be sure to read all the pages) ***NOTE: All blocks will be twelve inches square when sewn into the quilt top, and so, should measure twelve and one half inches square when you turn them in.

In a monochromatic color scheme the colors in the design all come from the same color family. The most important step in the monochromatic scheme is value – the contrast of light and dark hues. It is important to remember that a design is much more interesting and eye popping when there are dramatic value changes present. The monochromatic design is the most difficult to work in because fabrics must "strictly" adhere to the one color family guidelines, and most of us do not have fabrics with a broad "value" spectrum of one color family in our fabric stash. You cannot add neighboring color wheel hues in a monochromatic scheme. Be careful, this one will be pretty tricky. For this months block we will be using the monochromatic hues of the blue.
