May 2010 – The Three Musketeers – The Triadic Color Combo
Colors to use: Blue, Red and Yellow-green
The triadic color combination is a wonderful blend of three colors that are equal distance from each other on the color wheel. The beauty of this trio relationship is undeniable. Magenta, yellow, and turquoise make up the most well known triadic combination and is called the primary triadic color scheme. Find your own triadic partners by first selecting your featured color. Then find the other two colors that lie equal distance from this color. Since we are using the Ives Color Wheel with 24 colors your second and third colors will lie eight color steps away from your featured color. Success depends on good color control so have only one color family play a dominant role, your second color will play a moderate role, and your third color should play a lesser role. For this months block we will be using the triadic color scheme of blue, red, and yellow-green. Happy Quilting!
